‘Poison Never Placed Inside Dog Park’, Project Green Says After Chow Chow Death

After Lovin Malta published the story of Milo the chow chow’s death after allegedly ingesting snail poison at a Marsaskala dog park, Project Green, the Government entity tasked with creating and up-keeping public parks in Malta, has issued a right of reply.

“Whilst Project Green empathises with the dog’s owner and its family, the agency must highlight that the rat capture systems utilised in its parks for public health reasons are sealed. These systems are not placed inside the dog parks, but outside the parks,” the park said.

Milo’s owner has alleged that her dog died of snail poison, as suggested by the vets who tended to him during his last moments.

However, Project Green clarified that it never uses snail poison inside dog parks.

“Project Green officials stationed at these parks do frequent rounds a day as part of their routine works. Park rules also state that dogs should be kept on a leash once outside the designated dog parks”, the entity continued.

“The agency was made aware of the case through two social media posts, one allegedly reporting snail poison and the other rat poison.”

The chow chow’s owner has said that she only took Milo off the leash inside the dog park and that according to the professionals at the Animal Hospital, the symptoms which led up to the dog’s death alluded to the ingestion of snail poison.
