A €5,000 reward for any information leading to the person responsible for the string of brutal cat killings in Sliema, Gżira, and Valletta.

The tragedy has sparked outrage among locals and animal rights activists after the violence came to light on 17th June after Debbie Calamatta posted disturbing details on the Malta Pet Adoption Group’s Facebook page, describing mutilated cats found across the island.

In one case, a cat was discovered with part of its tongue cut off. Another had its tail severed and was found dead on a Sliema street.

Animal activist Romina Frendo, contributing €1,000 of the reward through her NGO, believes the attacks may be linked to a single individual or even a group. She also shared shocking CCTV footage that appears to show a man violently slamming a cat to the ground.

Mix Markt Malta pledged an additional €3,000 to the NGO’s reward, and on Thursday, 3rd July, Frendo announced that the reward would increase to €5,000.

Frendo warned that the killings may be part of a larger torture ring and is urging the public to come forward with any information. “If you’ve seen anything suspicious or have footage, don’t stay silent,” she said.
