It’s Unacceptable That Animal Welfare Used A Delivery Van For Kittens, PN Says

It is completely unacceptable that the Animal Welfare Directorate used a delivery van that transports food instead of an animal ambulance, the Nationalist Party said in a statement following the death of newborn kittens.

This comes after Lovin Malta reported on the case of newborn kittens that froze to death due to the cold temperatures that they were placed in when transported by Animal Welfare.

“It is unacceptable that animals that were already vulnerable due to their health condition were placed in a freezer,” the PN said in a statement.

While acknowledging how the officer driving this van ended up being fired from his job, the Nationalist Party asked whether this officer questioned why he was going to use this type of van and also why the Animal Directorate did not foresee the imminent danger the cats were exposed to.

“The main objective of the Animal Directorate is to see that all animals have their five main freedoms respected: that they are not hungry or thirsty; they do not go through suffering; not exposed to pain; to have the right to live their lives true to their personality, and to be kept away from any kind of fear or stress,” it said.

“Therefore, the PN notes that it is unacceptable how, in this case, it was Animal Welfare itself that created an undesirable state for animals where he exposed them to extra hardships that led to their death.”

In light of this, the Nationalist Party requested that all the necessary investigations are carried out and that action be taken so that similar cases do not happen again.

“Instead, the Government should see that it is the Directorate for the Protection of Animals that really protects and protects animals,” it said.

The Nationalist Party also reiterated that in the country, even animals deserve much better.

It also thanked the many volunteers who dedicate their time, money and their energy every day to help animals in need in the best possible way.
