Wag N Walk: Help Fabio Spiteri Reach His Animal Shelter Goal After Seven Incredible Triathlons

Keen walkers and their furry four-legged friends have been invited to join Fabio Spiteri and organisers from Borg Cardona Pet Supplies for a Wag N Walk tonight – a pet walk in aid of Spiteri’s goal of raising funds for animal shelters and cat feeders.

“This event will help increase funds for animal charities” Andrew, from Borg Cardona Pet Supplies, told Lovin Malta.

“It will also give a warm thank you for Fabio Spiteri’s Seven triathlons achieved.”

Fabio recently attempted an enormous challenge, the Deca-Triathlon in Brazil. He was seeking to become the first Maltese person to put together a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride, and 42km run, every day – ten times in a row.

Things were going well – or about as well as could be expected – by day five.

“Blister burst during the last 5km making the last push feel like hell, but managed to pull through till the very end,” Spiteri wrote after completing the fifth day.

He even managed to place first to mark the halfway point.

Unfortunately though, after seven days, those blisters had only worsened – so much so that he had to return to Malta early.

“After a solid seven days of racing (2nd overall standings) and sky-high determination, I will not be continuing my dream of completing the DECA, not this time around at least,” Spiteri said.

Fabio’s dream was cut short this time round, as competing for any longer would have been unnecessarily reckless.

Throughout all of this, Fabio was not just running for what would have been – and is – a tremendous physical achievement, but also for a cause which is near and dear to him – aiming to raise €100,000 for overwhelmed local animal shelters.

Tonight’s Wag N Walk event is a continuation of that noble effort.

Perhaps more importantly, the walk from Għajn Għeriexem to Saqqajja presents a significantly lower likelihood of devastating bodily breakdown than does the prospect of ten consecutive decathlons.

If you’re in a position to attend and contribute, a €5 donation will be collected per pet registered, in aid of animal shelters. Registration will begin half an hour before the Wag N Walk starts at 6pm.

“The man needs recognition for his success. This will give him the courage to try the deca once again” said Andrew

“It was literally organised for his recognition. As we feel not much noise was done for his feat. Or rather, feet…”
