32 turtle hatchlings made their successful journey to the sea at Golden Bay in the early hours of Sunday.

“We had signs over this week that the pipping process had started, however this can take up to 7 days until the hatchlings complete the whole process,” the NGO Wildlife Rescue Team Malta wrote on Facebook.

These hatchlings, emerging from their nests under the cover of darkness at 1.15am, navigated their way to the sea, instinctively drawn to the water’s edge.

“A total of 32 hatchlings made their way to the sea over a period of 2.5 hours. The nest will continue to be monitored over the next days & nights.”

This nest, the first recorded in Malta this year, was spotted on 15th June, with the hatchlings emerging 57 days later.
