Watch: ‘A Heartbreaking Image Of Slavery’ – Activist Group Calls Out Controversial Karrozzini For Animal Cruelty
TW + CW: this article contains footage of a distressed animal.
Animal Liberation Malta has called out the “outdated and useless” tradition of karrozzini, condemning it for animal cruelty and exploitation while publishing footage of a horse seemingly distressed and an owner highly unwilling to hear the concerns.
“Isn’t this a heartbreaking image of slavery,” the activist organisation wrote on social media.
Footage sent to the organisation shows a horse with erratic behaviour, foaming at the mouth, and with his vision obstructed by something covering his face.
“Tied up all day, going crazy from stress and foaming at the mouth due to a potentially sharp curb and bit in his mouth which makes it impossible for him to swallow.”
“Face completely covered up, ready to serve his ‘owner’ and people who want to be entertained for a nice ride in Valletta.”
Upon seeing the state of the horse, the person behind the camera appealed to the karrozzin driver to share her concerns of the condition of the animal and ask if it is ok. However, she was met with “a rude and savage individual who, upon realising wouldn’t make any money out of her,” hurled a slew of insults.
He repeatedly told her to f**k her family and go back to her country, seemingly triggered by her asking if what the horse was doing was normal.
“We can confidently say that that’s the same attitude they have towards their horses, which, according to them, they love so much just because they can get money out of them.”
“So are we sure these animals are in the right hands? Are we sure that these are the people who we want to represent our country?”
Animal Liberation Malta was sent this footage and decided to publish it to get its message out there; to say that it’s “high time e put an end to this cruel, outdated and useless ‘tradition’ and end this form of animal exploitation once and for all.”
The activist organisation further urged for bystanders to take and send in any footage they have of something similar or any other form of animal cruelty.
Do you think that karrozzini should not be allowed anymore?
