Watch: Animal Hospital Remains Closed As Government Is ‘Still In Discussion’
“Government is still in discussion with the management of APH to ensure that the hospital re-opens in the shortest time possible,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Rights told Lovin Malta.
Questions to the ministry were prompted by footage sent to the newsroom by a frustrated citizen lambasting “yet another shameful situation” on the island.
“The animal hospital is in a deplorable state on the outside and one hopes it hasn’t been looted from the inside yet.”
The APH Veterinary Hospital has been temporarily closed since 18th August 2023, with the government citing extensive damage caused to electricity cables during road works for the closure.
However, the resident highlighted that such damage should have been repaired by now, and conspired that there is “obviously more to the story”.
Nonetheless, when asking the ministry why the hospital is still closed and when it expects to be re-opened, officials stated that discussions are ongoing to open the hospital in the shortest time possible.
The Ta’ Qali veterinary hospital is the only one that offers 24/7 services on the island. So, emergencies have been left in the hands of NGOs and clinics available by chance, creating very distressing and disorganised situations for both owners and their pets.
