Watch: Celebrating A Record Year – Two Turtles Released At Ġnejna Bay By Wildlife Rescue Team
Malta’s turtle conservation efforts hit a new milestone this year with the highest number of recorded turtle nests on the island’s beaches.
Today, Nature Trust’s Wildlife Rescue Team Malta celebrated by releasing two rehabilitated loggerhead turtles back into the sea at Ġnejna Bay.
Both turtles, Marlene and Nigel, were nursed back to health by Nature Trust’s team.

Marlene, a juvenile, was rescued in August after being found in a weak state with a fishing hook and line stuck in her.
Nigel, rescued in June, had a similar injury. After months of care, both turtles are now back in their natural habitat.
This summer saw a whopping 406 turtle hatchlings from 7 nests make their way into Malta’s waters—a huge reward for the tireless work of the Wildlife Rescue Team.
Lottoland, a proud partner of the Wildlife Rescue Team for the past four years, has contributed over €40,000 in funding to help care for injured turtles and conserve local wildlife.
In fact, Lottoland ambassador for Malta Ira Losco also helped release one of the juvenile Loggerhead turtles.
The company also funds the centre’s only full-time employee, ensuring the team continues their amazing work.
The future looks bright for Malta’s turtle population, thanks to all the dedicated work and support Wildlife Rescue Team is receiving.
