Watch: Dolphins Spotted Dancing Majestically Between Malta And Comino

A sailor named Mostafa Hassan was working on a ship yesterday just off the Maltese coast – when he spotted at least two dolphins dancing through the currents around the ship’s bow.

“I saw them between Malta and Kemmuna around 11.00 in the morning,” Mostafa told Lovin Malta.

Hassan is a sailor who works on a service boat at Miggiani Offshore, which operates seven vessels and has been offering offshore services to commercial and charter vessels since 1980.

Yesterday, one of those vessels was fortunate enough to be graced by dolphins leaping majestically into the air, effortlessly staying ahead of the ship, before plunging back into the water.

Given that “summer is here”, this is a good time for us all to remind ourselves of what we should do if we come across wild dolphins in Malta.

Granted, one of those recommendations is that “no vessel should approach intentionally within 100 metres of a cetacean”, but in this case the dolphins appear to have approached the vessel themselves.

At several points during the footage Mostafa captured, the dolphins launched into the air simultaneously, as though putting in their own bid for a shot at representing the Mediterranean as synchronised swimmers.

Mostafa was thrilled to witness this sight, as it brightened an exceedingly overcast day.

“I’ve seen them before, but not close like that.”
