“I would like to point out the importance of enforcement of the law which is already in place to review the identification through microchipping of the dog,” the MP started off.

“When I asked a parliamentary question to the concerned minister, the response I was given that the only instances when dogs are checked if they are chipped or not is when there is a formal report to the Directorate,” Chetcuti added.

The MP continued saying this should not be the way things are done and spot checks should be done so that people who do not microchip their dog can be penalised according to the law.

Chetcuti ended her statement by saying this lack of enforcement is what is allowing individuals to abuse animals.
