Watch: Skunk On The Prowl: Small, Long-Tailed Animal Spotted Chilling On Maltese Street
A man came across a pretty unusual sight when passing through the streets near San Blas last night… a striped skunk casually scuttling around in the middle of the road.
Skunks may not live in the Maltese wild but they are sold as exotic pets.
In fact, a woman posted on social media today that her pet skunk had just gone missing.
Although skunks are renowned for their ability to spray unpleasant odours when they feel threatened, captive-bred skunks often have their scent glands which produce these scents surgically removed, a controversial procedure as it essentially strips the small animals off a defence mechanism.
Skunks have been described as playful and cuddly pets, although owning one can be hard work as they are curious creatures that require regular entertainment.
