Watch: Stray Cats In Malta Are Falling Ill To Feline Coronavirus, Volunteers Warn

A local stray cat volunteer group has raised the alarm about strays around the island falling ill to a feline coronavirus.

Kitty Guardians said they are currently taking care of five strays cats fighting FIP, a viral disease of cats caused by the feline coronavirus.

Ragetti, who is blind in one eye, was rescued from a colony along with his two brothers. Lucius and Lumos were found in the middle of the road in Mosta, with Kitty Guardians suspecting they were abandoned there.

Pixie was born from an emergency c-section and was bottle-fed from birth but was diagnosed with FIP after her neutering.

Tammy was rescued from Qormi after someone noticed her walking around in circles, clearly in distress.

Kitty Guardians warned they are facing hundreds of euro on a weekly basis to provide veterinary treatment to these cats and urged the public to help them out.

“These cats didn’t choose to fight this battle, but together we can help them win it,” they said. “Let’s make this Christmas one of hope, healing, and compassion.”
