No one likes being involved in a car collision, but being hit by the hand of God before that very hand of God drives away without leaving its details must really sting.

That’s exactly what one woman took to social media to speak about after she was involved in a traffic incident that featured a priest, four nuns and an alleged hit and run.

“To the priest who hit my car from behind at Msida lights this afternoon at 2.30 and left the scene after I told him to move to the side to fill in the form, may God always live in you as he does now! Report filed at Msida police station,” she said.

The woman followed up her post to indicate that besides the priest, four nuns were also inside the vehicle with him at the time of the crash… and that they all casually zoomed off without leaving any of their insurance details.

Some people in the comments section took offence at the fact that the woman mentioned the driver was a priest

“So, we now know it was a priest and you started a hate campaign. And you hope this will solve your problem?” asked one person in reaction to the woman’s post, with others agreeing that people shouldn’t be so hard on a priest.

However, others believed a priest should be held at a higher standard than most, seeing as he is God’s representative.

“A priest should lead by example,” one comment read. “This is shameful behaviour. I hope the police take proper action against him.”

“A clergyman means he holds a position of trust which carries heavy responsibilities,” another chimed in. “I disagree with you that ‘he’s getting it worse’ because he is a priest. On the contrary, it’s almost like you are hinting that we should go easy on him, being a priest. Committing a hit and run says a lot about one’s character.”

The original poster stepped back in to clarify why she had written the post in the first place

“You mistake my intention here,” she said. “My intention was to show that our society is really going to the dogs if even a priest can nonchalantly leave the scene of the crime. Also, I beg to differ that a priest is like any other human being… he is the leader of the Catholic flock hence it follows that he should lead us all by example!”

One person ended it all succinctly by saying: “Don’t worry. I’m sure he’s sending you thoughts and prayers.”
