“Your gossip is causing damage and undoing our huge physical and mental efforts,” Angelo wrote. “My cat is suffering hunger and thirst and scared. A living hell.”

Toffee has reportedly been seen or heard in Tarxien and nearby areas, with the owner meticulously mapping out potential sightings thanks to helpful updates from members of the public.

A CCTV clip on 13th May and a video on 18th May have both given him hope that Toffee is still alive and roaming the area.

But it hasn’t all been kindness. Angelo revealed that he’s also been the target of cruel prank calls, with strangers phoning him with false information, sending him driving frantically to locations only to find nothing.

“Please don’t try to act clever and say he was found,” he continued. “It’s already enough cruel people calling from private numbers… If you cannot help, just say a prayer. But don’t spread rumours and hurt me.”

Angelo is offering €1,000, no questions asked, to anyone who helps bring Toffee back home.

He stressed that this is the most he can offer, with help from kind people around him, and pleaded for anyone who may know where Toffee is to come forward.

“I just want Toffee back safe and sound,” he said.

Toffee’s absence is not just being felt by Angelo. His two other cats at home are severely depressed without their brother, and it’s their presence that continues to push him to search deep into the night.
