These Five Maltese Buildings Are Nominated For A Top EU Prize In Architecture
The Maltese skyline has been shifting in recent years. The two-storey limestone townhouses are being swallowed up by towering daredevil projects that seem to be shooting for the stars.
Our architects are becoming better risk-takers, and their audaciousness is being congratulated on EU levels.
Five Maltese architecture projects have been nominated for the prestigious EU Mies Award. 383 projects from 38 countries are nominated every two years, and the nominated works are then are made public through the website and an exhibition.
The five Maltese nominations were selected by the Kamra tal-Periti after winning the national Premju Galizia and include everything from hotel restorations to residential projects. Here’s the full list.
1. The Phoenicia Hotel restoration, along with the rehabilitation of the surrounding fortifications
2. The eCabs Booking Office in St. Julian’s
3. Farsons’ corporate office extension in Mrie?el
4. Residential project: Swieqi
5. Residential project: San Pawl tat-Tar?a
