Scar’s Back! 10 Years After Their Last Album, Maltese Rock Favourites From The 00s Announce New Music Is Imminent

Growing up in the 00s, Maltese rock fans were comparably spoilt for choice. Venues were aplenty (at least when compared to nowadays), and so was the number of bands trying to make a name for themselves on our island and beyond. But there’s only a couple of those bands who many local musicians can trace their earliest moments of inspiration to… and one of them has just announced a comeback.

Scar took to Facebook on Monday afternoon to share White Lie, a single from their 2009 album Breaking Radio Silence that had been played pretty much all over the island a whole decade ago.

“This was the second single released from our second album,” the band reminisced. “New music coming your way soon!”

While not entirely inactive, the last decade was a quiet one for Scar when compared to the 00s

Formed in mid-2001, Scar quickly shot to fame when their debut album was released back in 2003. Winning a Best Album Production album award that same year, hitting local radio charts and staying there for weeks on end, the pop rock band quickly became a household name in Malta.

Soon enough, tracks like Time To Know and Calling Out even got playtime on Rai Uno and an American radio stations, and by 2005, Scar had signed a distribution deal with Germany’s Cargo Records for their album to be pushed overseas. “The rock in the Mediterranean will soon be on the rock and roll map,” Musimarkt Magazine had said following their debut.

The decade ended on another high note for Scar, with their second album Breaking Radio Silence dropping in October 2009.

The band had even tried to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest twice, making it to the Finals of the Eurosong on both occasions. But while their last attempt was in 2013 and they also performed at Rockestra over the years, the last decade has still been relatively quiet for the four-piece.

Malta might be absolutely tiny, but Scar have still managed to leave a mark on the island over the years

In fact, in Malta alone, the band managed to sell over 3,000 albums, topped local charts and taste foreign ones. Now, they seem to be ready for the next stage.

Looking back at a very eventful decade and a half of music, the band have slowly started resharing tiny snippets of their “trip down memory lane”, even asking fans to guess the names of songs popular lyrics were taken from.

But that’s not all; Scar will be returning to the stage this June, supporting British band james alongside local indie outfit The Velts. As for the new music, we’ll be waiting on that and keeping you posted on what 2019 Scar will sound like hopefully soon enough!
