The Esplora Interactive Science Centre has officially launched its Educational Programme for the 2025/2026 academic year, reaffirming its commitment to sparking curiosity and promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education across Malta and Gozo.

“With this programme, we are reaffirming our efforts in a vital area of the education system, encouraging more students to choose STEAM subjects. Through this hands-on educational science programme, which brings science to students of all ages, we are renewing our commitment to an education that blends knowledge with creativity. Education should be vibrant and relevant and that is exactly what we are seeing today,” Clifton Grima, stated, speaking at the launch, the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation.

Guests were given a preview of the new programme’s activities, as well as live shows in the Science Theatre. Senior government officials were also present, praising Esplora’s contribution to education and innovation in Malta.

“Science centres like Esplora play a crucial role in nurturing creativity and scientific thinking. Investment in STEAM is an investment in our country’s future,” The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, said during his speech.

Mary Ann Cauchi, Senior Director at Esplora, emphasised the importance of integrating the arts within STEM education to create a more holistic learning experience.

“By embracing the ‘A’ in STEAM, we spark creativity alongside scientific inquiry. The arts play an essential role by helping students make connections, express ideas and think critically. This year’s programme reflects our belief that innovation flourishes when science and creativity go hand in hand,” she said.

Kiki Mizzi, Deputy Director for STEAM Engagement, presented the updated programme structure, highlighting its alignment with the national curriculum and its accessibility for students of all backgrounds and abilities.

“Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. We have designed this programme to ensure that every student, regardless of age, ability or learning style, can engage meaningfully with science. By closely aligning with the curriculum, we also support educators in delivering content that is both relevant and inspiring,” said Mizzi.

In addition, Esplora announced that as of 29th September it will also be open on Mondays, giving visitors even more opportunities to explore and enjoy the centre throughout the week.

There will also be a slight price increase, reflecting the ongoing improvements and enhancements to the overall experience at Esplora. This adjustment supports their mission to continually upgrade exhibits, introduce new activities and deliver an even richer educational experience for all visitors.
