If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in traffic on a Maltese road and wondered how much time you waste just sitting in a car, we’ve got some very bad news for you. Turns out the total number is very big, especially if you regularly use the Birkirkara Bypass.

The Project Aegle Foundation have a powerful mission you really need to know about — they want to make our life better through improved mobility. To really help hammer their point home, they’ve carried out a study and collected data last year in January and October which shows how long people using cars spend in traffic.

It turns out a staggering 66 hours is wasted in traffic on the Birkirkara Bypass.

Last January, it took people 14 long and boring minutes to get from one end of the Birkirkara Bypass to the other — it will take less time for you to cook ramen and chill at home than travel on this Bypass to Hell.

In October, the amount of time wasted on this Bypass during the morning was that of 16 minutes. You should be doing face masks on the Bypass, honestly.

Basically, you spend almost three full days on the Birkirkara Bypass. Your weekends are generally two days long. Do the math, friend.

This project was carried out to raise awareness on how much time we spend in traffic here on this island and Project Aegle believe that this study will help in contributing towards a solution for our crippling traffic problem.

The study was carried out using on-board tracking devices in conjunction with HandsOn Systems and were implemented between the 16th and 20th of January, and the 16th and 20th of October 2017.

The two different months were chosen to calculate the delays experienced during different times of the year.
