10-Year-Old Maltese Driver Kimi Dominates Italian Karting Scene
At just 10 years old, Maltese karting prodigy Kimi is already making waves in the world of competitive racing. This young driver recently clinched the Coppa Italia di Zona 7 Under 10 title with an impressive final score of 550 points, cementing his place among Malta’s most promising karting talents.
Kimi’s passion for motorsport began early, at only five and a half years old. Inspired by his father, a devoted petrolhead and hillclimb driver, Kimi’s interest sparked after watching onboard racing videos. Despite the family’s deep love for motorsport, his father never pushed him into the sport, knowing how demanding and expensive karting can be. But once Kimi got behind the wheel of a kart, there was no turning back.
After his very first laps, it was clear that Kimi had a natural talent. His parents bought him his own go-kart, and within just four months, he was eager to race. That debut season saw him finish 4th in the local championship, an impressive result for the youngest competitor on the grid.
Over the next two seasons, Kimi continued to develop his skill and confidence. He then ventured beyond local circuits, racing in three events in Sicily, where he claimed two victories. The following year, he took part in the full Sicilian Championship, finishing as runner-up, a remarkable feat for such a young driver.
This year, Kimi’s hard work and determination truly paid off. Competing in the GR3 Under 10 category, which featured 20 regular entrants, including several strong Maltese drivers, Kimi dominated the championship, winning the first five races of the season and ultimately securing the overall title.
Now, all eyes are on his upcoming race in ten days’ time, where a strong performance could make Kimi Sicily’s overall champion across all categories.
As if that weren’t enough, on 23rd November, Kimi will proudly represent Malta at the national finals in Battipaglia (Salerno). There, he’ll compete against the top four drivers from each of Italy’s nine regions, a tremendous honour and opportunity for any young racer.
Kimi’s story is one of natural passion, dedication, and raw talent. In just five years behind the wheel, he’s evolved from a curious child inspired by his father’s videos to one of Maltas’s brightest young motorsport prospects.
And as his father proudly says “I never pushed him into it. He just fell in love with the sport himself.”
With his determination and spirit, there’s no doubt that this is just the beginning of an incredible racing journey for Kimi.
Well done Kimi! Keep it up
