Last weekend marked a historic first for Malta in the realm of karting, as 11-year-old Benjamin Westwood secured a victory at the ROK Winter Trophy.

Benjamin, a member of the GP racing team in Italy and managed by Minardi management, accomplished this feat against 44 competitors in the mini category.

In Malta, Benjamin races for the KPL racing team, having joined them at the tender age of eight. Winning the ROK Winter Trophy holds immense prestige, especially considering the fierce competition predominantly from drivers based and racing in Italy, the global karting hub. This event serves as a vital platform for scouting young talents for future motorsports opportunities, including F1.

Despite encountering engine troubles during qualifying, which relegated him to starting from P18 in all heats, Benjamin’s determination remained. He persevered through each challenge, ultimately making him victorious.
