125 Years of Football: Malta FA Releases Iconic Anniversary Shirt

To mark 125 years of Maltese football, the Malta Football Association has unveiled a limited-edition anniversary shirt, described as a collector’s item and a proud tribute to the country’s sporting legacy.
The Malta FA launched the shirt during a press conference held on Monday, which also served to preview the upcoming international fixtures. Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo and Commercial and Communications Director Matthew Spiteri Gonzi shared details about the kit and provided important updates on match ticketing. National Team players Rachel Cuschieri, Maria Farrugia, Henry Bonello, and Carlo Zammit Lonardelli were also present.
The shirt design draws inspiration from the kit worn by the Malta National Team in its first official match against Austria in 1957. Simple and classic, the kit includes the Maltese eight-pointed cross on the front and the Malta FA’s 125th Anniversary logo on the back, along with a quality mark at the bottom. The Errea logo appears only on the sleeves to preserve the minimalist aesthetic.
Only 1,700 shirts will be made available to the public. Each one comes in a limited-edition branded box and is individually numbered at random. Numbers cannot be requested or reserved.
“This kit launch is a fitting way to celebrate the Malta FA’s 125th Anniversary. We are aiming for strong performances from both senior National Teams to make this year truly memorable,” said President Vassallo.
Matthew Spiteri Gonzi added, “Working with Errea, we wanted to keep the design simple and rooted in history. The attention to detail makes this shirt not just a tribute, but a statement.”
The Men’s National Team will debut the kit in their FIFA World Cup European Qualifying match against Lithuania on 7 June at 18:00 at the National Stadium. The Women’s National Team will also wear the kit later this year.
