41 Golds For Sliema ASC And Two National Records For Sasha Gatt At Easter Swimming Meet

The 32nd edition of the Easter International Swimming Meet made a splash at the National Pool Complex in Tal-Qroqq, running from 23rd to 26th April and it was nothing short of spectacular.
As part of the ASA of Malta’s 100-Year celebrations, a new Centenary Swimming Club Trophy was introduced, awarded to the club that secured the most gold medals throughout the four-day competition.
With a whopping 41 gold medals, Sliema ASC took home the top prize.
National Records Smashed
Malta’s own Sasha Gatt was one of the meet’s standout swimmers, breaking not one but two National Long Course Records.
- In the 200m Freestyle, she clocked in at 2:04.25, beating Mya Azzopardi’s 2021 record.
- In the 400m Freestyle, she smashed her own 2021 record with an impressive 4:16.36 finish.
Easter Meet Records Rewritten
Several Easter Meet Open Records were also broken by swimmers registered to Maltese clubs:
- Zoe Cawsey (Neptunes WPSC) broke the 50m Breaststroke record twice, ending with 32.97 in the final.
- Henrik Starkus (Sliema ASC) did the same in the men’s 50m Breaststroke, finishing with 29.08.
- Sasha Gatt’s 400m, 800m (8:52.75), and 1500m Freestyle (16:49.85) swims also reset Easter Meet records.
Swimmers from visiting foreign clubs also broke additional records in the Men’s 100m & 200m Backstroke, 4x100m Medley Relay and Women’s 50m Freestyle, showing the high calibre of international participation.
With 476 swimmers across 2,430 individual entries and 42 relay teams, this year’s meet brought together 13 local clubs and 9 international clubs from countries like Italy, Germany, Romania, Panama, Sweden, and Poland.
The meet was officially recognised as a World Aquatics Qualifying Competition for the upcoming World Swimming Championships in Singapore this July.
It also served as a qualifying opportunity for top local swimmers aiming to represent Malta in several upcoming international events, including:
- Games of the Small States of Europe (Andorra, May)
- European U23 and Junior Championships (Samorin, June & July)
- COMEN Mediterranean Cup (Belgrade, June)
- European Youth Olympic Festival (Skopje, July)
- World Junior Championships (Otopeni, August)
With record-breaking performances and elite-level participation, the Easter Meet 2025 has once again proved itself as a major milestone in Malta’s competitive swimming calendar.
