As Euro Qualifiers Approach The End, Malta’s National Football Team Suffers Another Embarrassing Defeat At The Hands Of Faroe Islands
Malta suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of Faroe Islands last night in what was a poor showing of football from both ends that resulted in a 1-0 lead for the home team.
It was an unathletic goal from a corner that sealed Malta’s fate in Torshavn, which will most likely result in the national team placing dead last in their group for the European Qualifiers.
The Faroe Islands made up for their loss in the first leg of the European Championship when they faced Malta at Ta’ Qali and ended up losing to the reds 2 -1.
Malta failed to capitalise on their previous win this time though, putting the overall record with the tiny islands of 50,000 people to an embarrassing 2 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.
Malta’s strongest attempt to tie the game came at the very last minutes of the 90-minute bout, but throughout the entire match, the team failed to make any real scoring opportunities.
In fact, the match would have been 2-0 had it not been for goalkeeper Bonello’s great save in stoppage time.
Malta has two matches left in the UEFA Euro Qualifiers, one against Spain on 15th November and the last home battle against Norway three days later. Currently last with three points over eight matches, Malta is currently sitting on a goal difference of -16.
