Floriana FC is taking a major step towards realising a long-held dream.

Club president Johann Said unveiled exciting new plans to develop the Independence Arena into a state-of-the-art stadium with a capacity for 4,000 spectators.

Speaking at a rally attended by passionate supporters, Said revealed that the club’s vision of having their own stadium is now closer to becoming a reality, thanks to recently obtaining Voluntary Organisation (VO) status.

This crucial milestone allows the club to begin its commercial ventures, paving the way for the stadium project to move forward.

During the event, Said shared the architect’s plans with club members, promising that this development will put the club on a stronger foundation and ensure the club’s self-sustainability for years to come.

He boldly predicted that the stadium’s construction would have a transformative impact on the surrounding area, even saying that the five-star hotels nearby would “become six-star” after the stadium is built.

Said was adamant that he would stop at nothing to see this dream come to life.

“The attendances have slumped when the Gzira Stadium was closed down and football moved to Ta’ Qali,” he noted.

He argued that the key to regenerating Maltese football lies in bringing stadiums closer to local communities, rather than centralising matches.

While Said did not go into further detail about the project’s timeline or funding, Said expressed his gratitude to Sports Minister Clifton Grima for his advice and support throughout the planning process.
