Vella was competing in the women’s Senior Kata category, of the Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra when she achieved this incredible feat.

This was the first time karate was included in these games. This makes her the first person to win gold in this category of the GSSE.

In the opening round, Vella triumphed over Aileen Sprenger of Liechtenstein, Cecile Orrigo of Monaco, and Maria Ubiergo of Andorra. She then secured the gold medal with a final-round victory against Montenegro’s Mila Mrakovic.

Vella delivered an exceptional performance, earning a score of 25.8 points. This score placed her ahead of Luxembourg’s Sarah Mostefa-Sba, who scored 25.4 points, and Monaco’s Camille Laverdet, who achieved 24.8 points.

In 2024, Jessica secured a gold medal in the Female Kata event at the European Small States Championships, demonstrating her exceptional skills in this discipline. Additionally, at the European Karate Federation Junior, Cadet, and U21 Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, she achieved three victories in the Kata competition, showcasing her competitive edge on the European stage.

Well done Jessica, Forza Malta!
