Here Are The Best Martial Art Schools In Malta To Channel Your Inner Conor McGregor
You may even learn the Kamehameha one day...
This week is the busiest week for gyms worldwide - but for some people, a gym isn't the best way to get their work out on. They need something more, something to connect to, something to get lost in.
That is, they need a martial art.
There are many different martial arts offered today, ranging from disciplines from Israel to Thailand and everywhere in between. Here are some of the best schools in Malta offering to teach you how to kick ass.
1. Krav Maga
Krav Maga Malta is the first school established in Malta specialising in civilian Krav Maga system and self-defence. Instructor Keith Galea established the school in 2010 and they've been training Maltese citizens in the brutal and effective Krav Maga system ever since.
This kickboxing school regularly enters and wins competitions around Malta. It offers classes for all levels - from children's beginners to adult advanced - and even offers classes in K1 and Kickboxercise for fitness. This school's master has over 30 years of experience.
3. Aikido Malta
The Yamato Dojo in Hamrun was founded by Sensei Jean Francois Riondet, a student of Hirokazu Kobayashi Shihan, a former disciple of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido.
The Malta dojo is the first branch Dojo of the school outside France. Riondet's Shihan Aikido is one of dynamic fluidity and complex techniques that look misleadingly simple, disarmingly natural and graceful in their execution.
Offering classes in Kung-Fu and self-defence techniques, they offer different classes during the week. They cater for group sessions, specialised Self-Defence courses and also one-to-one private lessons.
The Jiushin Kan Malta is run by the Bajada Brothers and has as its Honbu Headquarters the Jiushin Kan Dojo in Luqa. It is the home of Jiushin Ryu Jujutsu - meaning School of the True High Ideals of Yawara (another historical name for Jujutsu). It serves its founding purpose as a Budo (Martial Arts) Institute, striving for the development of higher technical skills and education within the true meaning of the Japanese Martial Arts, and with greater commitments for excellence whilst promoting Butoku (Martial Virtues).
This school is aimed at children. They will find different techniques, training methods, self defence moves, kicks, punches, weapons training - lots of fun stuff to learn. Every lesson has an instructor watching out for the children at all times.
Arete is a form of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that was established in Malta in 2016. The Arete headquarters are located in Bangkok, Thailand. Arete is a complete self-defence system which teaches you how to defend yourself against larger opponents. It's also a killer workout. You will burn calories (up to 750kCal in an hour) and you will build a 'core' functional strength which is unique to Jiu Jitsu.
Malta Thaiboxing is the place to be if you want to try Muay Thai, one of the most combative and leg-focused martial arts.
