Here’s A List Of Most Of The Marathons That You Can Take Part In This Year In Malta

Remember that 2019 New Year’s resolution you set for yourself? Now do you remember at which point you stopped caring about it?

I don’t either. It’s mid-February and I’m already thinking resolutions be damned, I’m okay with just being the basic version of me.

Which is why news of marathons and long-distance runs being organised in Malta practically constantly is very welcoming news – there’s chance to accomplish something big in my life every month.

Since there are still more to be announced, here’s a list of most of the marathons happening so far in Malta.

February 24: GiG Malta Marathon

It may be a little late to get involved in this annual marathon and half marathon if you haven’t already, because it’s happening next week and running 21k without the proper training can be just a little bit daunting.

This event has been organised in Malta since 1986, and this year 2,000 Maltese and 3,000 foreigners will be participating in it.

March 2: Eurosport Trail Running League 2019 – Race 3

For something a little lighter, you might want to try out running along this relatively unknown trail on the southern tip of the island in Munxar, organised by Agones SFC.

March 3: Carnival Run 2019

Also organised by Agones SFC, this Carnival Run is the only one of its kind on the island. On the day, there will be 3 events; a competitive 5km race, a 2.5km Fun Run/Walk and a 1km Kids Run.

We imagine that this will be our contribution to the day’s running event:

March 10: The BRND WGN & University Ring Road Races

Yet again you’ll get to choose whether to participate in the 5km race, the 2km race, the 5km relay or the 800m Children’s Fun Run (again, we’re with the kids). Half of the proceeds of this University Run go to Hospice Malta.

March 19: The Lisa Maria Memorial Dingli 10

The Dingli 10 event is practically tradition, quite like the February marathon and half-marathon. Since 1991, runners and walkers alike take part in one of three events; the 10 mile road race, the 2KM event for kids or the 10 mile walkathon.

The Dingli 10 event is certainly renowned for its scenic beauty, and you’ll be able to view some of Malta’s most beautiful countryside as it colours up this challenge.

April 14: HOS 10K Series 2019 – Mdina Edition

Head to Mdina for House of Sport 10K marathon for some scenic views and a very sweaty afternoon.

Which means we’ll be running, but we’ll also be happy.

April 28: Teamsport Gozo Half Marathon

This is a two-day running event. But no, no you will not be running for two days. Which makes this half marathon the perfect opportunity to spend the weekend in Gozo.

There are lots of races that you can pick from to take part in, from the half marathon itself to a 10K race. And there’s of course also the kids’ race that you can urge your little ones to join.

May 5: Wings For Life

Wings For Life is a niche and international concept that is aimed at runners and wheelchair participants alike. Instead of a finish line, competitors race side by side to keep ahead of the virtual Catcher Car.

This is a pretty cool concept which is worth joining just to find out what it even means to keep ahead of a virtual car.

May 12: Gaudos Half Marathon & 10K

These half marathon and 10k races are the very first of its kind that the Malta Marathon Organising Committee is organising, which is being held in Gozo (i.e. another good reason to go to Gozo).

Now if only we knew what is a ‘Gaudos’…

May 18: 2019 Perskindol Malta Mountain Running Championships

This is a hill race that will have you panting, sweating, and swearing under your breath in no time.

Challenge accepted.

May 19: XTERRA Trail Run 5km

Because that hill run wasn’t enough for us, know we’re going to run 5K around the Loop of the XTERRA Triathlon. Of course.

May 26: Fastest5 2019

This is the third year that Raportz Running Club will be holding this event, and promise that this year will offer you a guaranteed personal-best-smashing course with some great attractions.

June 1: The Grid

After a Spring of practicing, it’s time for the queen challenge: The Grid. So far, the only information on the event is that it will be bigger and tougher. But bigger and tougher than what we saw our athletic-crazed friends post online last year seems overwhelming.

Once again (and with a heavier heart this time); challenge accepted.

August 25: Zabbar 5K & 3K Races

It says it all in the title; it’s Żabbar, there’s a 5K race and there’s a 3K race, as well as a secret 1K race for the kids.

So you’ll be able to end your marathon spree with a pretty chill running session, because by this point 5K will have become what you do before breakfast.

Tag a friend you’re going to be taking along with you on marathons in 2019!
