Hibs Player Walks Back Betting Allegations Against Basketball Officials

Hibernians basketball player Derek Brown said he “may have unintentionally mis-expressed himself” when he alleged that officials cheated his team out of a victory last weekend.
Brown, who is facing disciplinary proceedings over his claim, said on Instagram that he never intended to attribute any form of unlawful actions to Malta Basketball Association officials.
“Following the dramatic incident where I was tripped during an important game last week, I wish to clarify some of my posts where I may have unintentionally mis-expressed myself,” he said.
“I uploaded my posts when in pain and frustration over the incident on the pitch. I never intended to attribute any form of unlawful actions or intentions to the Malta Basketball Association officials and I regret if I expressed myself wrongly. I will continue to put my faith in fair play and sporting justice.”
Brown was tripped by Starlites coach Paul Ferrante, who is also facing disciplinary proceedings and who has since apologised for his actions.
After the game, Brown said that his team was “cheated out of a knockout by poor officials so they can win their damn bets on Bet365.”
