Jo’Anne Cassar Elected Into Badminton World Federation Council

Jo’Anne Cassar, General Secretary of Badminton Malta, has been elected to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Council during the 86th BWF Annual General Meeting held on Saturday 26 April 2025, in Xiamen, China.
“I am proud to have been given this level of trust, with 253 votes from across the globe. It shows that even though Malta is a small country, we can still be influential and play an active role in shaping international sport through organisations like the BWF. Now it’s time to use this result to make badminton a more accessible, popular and inclusive sport,” said Cassar.
In her role, Cassar will be to develop and promote badminton to engage with communities on a worldwide level. Together with the rest of the council, she will continue to nurture more badminton stars and enhance their visibility while prioritising their well-being.
Cassar was among 20 candidates to the BWF Council, receiving 253 votes — the sixth-highest number overall. She was also the second most-voted European candidate in the election. Her election adds Maltese representation to the BWF leadership during a significant phase for international badminton, as preparations continue for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Well done for this achievement, helping sport in Malta to continue developing for the better.
