Local Runner Marko Bezzina Takes On ‘Three Islands Run’ In An Attempt To Inspire Those Around Him
Diving instructor and long-distance runner Marko Bezzina has taken to social media to launch his ‘Three Islands Adventure’, in which he plans on running the perimeter of the three Maltese Islands in one go this Friday, in an attempt to inspire others.
Bezzina will be covering a total of 200km, and will begin at 5am in Ħondoq Bay, Gozo. Most of the distance covered will be on the trails, which he labelled as his “second home”. He plans on crossing the channels on a standup paddle board, should the weather permit him to do so.
The runner has recently taken part in the Chianti Ultra Trail, running a total of 100km with a 4000m elevation. He has also taken part in several other trail races and marathons, including the London marathon.
Although having only begun running in 2019, Bezzina has reached multiple goals since, which is exactly why he’s taken on the three islands adventure.
“The journey is more important than the destination. My first step was signing up for a 10km race some 5 years ago. Since then, sports has developed into a lifestyle for me. Keep up what you’re doing, even after you reach your first goal,” he stated.
The runner said that he has enjoyed all the training he has done towards the project.
“It means more to me than whatever happens on the day.”
He also encouraged his followers to donate to the NGOs that mean a lot to him and that he will be supporting.
Goodluck, Marko!
