Malta National Water Polo Team Heading To European Finals After Decisive Victory Over Portugal
Malta’s national water polo team is heading to the European Championship finals after a hard-fought win against Portugal last weekend.
Malta faced Portugal at the National Pool where they beat their opponents 12 – 10, making it the third time in a row that Malta will qualify for the European Championship finals.
Malta dominated early on, entering half time with a 9 – 5 lead.
Portugal showed more promise in the second half, but wasn’t strong enough to make up for its deficit ultimately resulting in their loss.
Malta will join group rivals Romania in Budapest, Hungary next January for the final rounds of the competition.
Head Coach Karl Izzo and the boys already have a taste of what the Romanian side has to offer after they faced the team yesterday in what was a controversial match that led to Malta’s defeat at the hands of the Romanians, 13 – 7.
Despite this loss, Malta has already secured their spot at the European Champions and if anything this bout was a good test of what is to come.
Congratulations to Team Malta and good luck at the European finals in January!
