The Malta Pool national team has made history after clinching the World Team Shootout title with a nail-biting 5-4 win over defending champions Wales on Monday night.

SportsDesk reported that the Maltese side, made up of Miguel Amato, Owen Amato, Johan Attard, Clayton Castaldi, Lydan Debono, Dejan Grech, Ryan Pisani and Chris Zaffarese, delivered a rock-solid performance to finally lift the trophy after three painful defeats in previous finals.

And they did it in the most dramatic way possible: by beating all three teams that had denied them glory in the past.

First, they dispatched 2022 winners Ireland in the quarter-finals, before edging 2023 champions Northern Ireland in a thrilling semi-final. In the final, they held their nerve to dethrone holders Wales, sealing the championship in front of a roaring crowd.

For many, it was sweet revenge, and none more so than for Clayton Castaldi, who emerged as the team’s X-Factor, delivering decisive frame wins in both the semi-final and the final.

This victory marks a landmark moment for Maltese pool, proving once again that Malta can punch above its weight on the world stage.
