Malta will begin their Euro 2021 qualifying campaign against one of the toughest matchups of the tournament, Euro 2017 finalists Denmark.

In previous tournaments, Malta would have had to go through a preliminary round facing teams of the same level. However, a change in the qualification format meant that the preliminary round has been abolished and all entrants start from the qualifying group stage.

This means that Team Malta will have their work cut out for them as they face their Group B opponents consisting of Italy, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel and Georgia.

Despite the uphill battle, captain Dorianne Theumathe stated in an interview that the team was excited about the opportunity to represent Malta on the international stage.

The members of the Malta women’s squad have been training regularly for the past two months in preparation for their commitments in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2021 qualifying campaign.

Coach Mark Gatt also had a few words to say before their matchup tomorrow, noting how the players and coaching staff showed great resilience and strength throughout the preseason and never complained about anything.

This will undoubtedly be a tough matchup for the Maltese side who have struggled with European qualifiers in the past.

Malta will face Denmark tomorrow in Viborg, kick-off will be at 6 pm. They will then face Bosnia & Herzegovina at the Asim Ferhatovic Hase Stadium in Sarajevo on September 3rd.
