Malta’s Adrenaline-Fuelled Powerboat Championship Heads To Italy For Nail-Biting Race Weekend
After organising numerous racing events fresh out of speed junkie heaven all around the archipelago, Malta’s very own Voomquest headed overseas for the first time last weekend for an exciting 48 hours of racing.
Taking to the seaside town of Chioggia in Venice, Voomquest’s first testing session was followed by The Grand Prix of Italy Trofeo Citta di Chioggia. As for Voomquest’s third Enemed event for the Lifestyle on Edge brand, entries from France, Belgium and Corsica joined three teams from Malta. And the islands’ representatives not only managed to hold their own, but also took home gold!
Team Cutting Edge (Steve Bezzina and Michael Abela) managed to nab first place, with Dominique Martini and Jean Luc Martini from Team Marine Diffusion following closely. Third place went to Team No Comment, made up of Francis Notschaele and Sam Howes.
Two teams – Team Atomic & Grey (Benjamin Van Riet and Robbe Van Riet) and Team Interceptor – did not make it to the finish line due to boat flips suffered during the last lap and the first race respectively.
Before last weekend, Voomquest’s events had all been organised around the Maltese Islands, which makes sense considering the company is based here. However, plans for the future see the powerboat championship expand far beyond our shores, especially considering it’s under the leadership of the Managing Director of Chaudron and five-time UIM World Powerboat Champion Aaron Ciantar.
