To capture this, Neil will be followed closely by a science team. Each day, a series of tests and evaluations will track how his body and mind respond to extreme stress and recovery. These daily assessments will monitor physical exhaustion, cognitive function, and emotional well-being.

The science programme will explore the impact of breathwork, movement, nutrition, and recovery on attention span, focus, physical fitness, and overall resilience, giving insights into what helps people perform at their best even under sustained pressure.

This isn’t just about endurance, it’s a live experiment to uncover how simple, accessible tools can help anyone get through life’s most demanding days.

This isn’t about proving physical endurance and strength. It’s about understanding what happens when we deliberately take ourselves to the edge and how we can recover, reset, and show up again the next day.

EP President Roberta Metsola described Neil as “ever-so inspiring”, calling him “an emblem of determination and resilience.”

“Good luck Neil, and keep flying the Maltese flag high.”

Prime Minister Robert Abela shared Neil’s announcement video to his Instagram story, writing: “Full support.”

Gozo Shadow Minister Alex Borg also reacted to the announcement, saying he was “thrilled” by the challenge.

“During his swim, Agius will get to experience the beauty of Gozo from a whole new perspective, with the route offering stunning views of the island’s cliffs and picturesque bays.”

“I’m certain Neil will serve as an inspiration to many. Swimming for all those hours – seven times around Gozo in seven days – is a true testament to dedication and determination. Wishing you all the best, Neil! I’m sure you’ll once again make Malta proud.”
