The newly-refurbished Ta’ Qali Basketball Pavilion is almost ready to be put to good use following the extensive completion of the two-phase rejuvenation project.

The €1.8 million project includes a number of upgrades that will elevate the standard of basketball in Malta ahead of the European Small State Games in 2023.

As part of the rejuvenation project, the new pavilion saw works conducted on a newly-built elevated roofing structure, upgrades to the dressing rooms, office and seating areas and the construction of new stores and a new restaurant.

Moreover, the seating capacity of the venue has increased to 1,000.

Prime Minister Robert Abela, along with Malta Basketball Association President Paul Sultana and Junior Minister for Sports Clifton Grima, were all present for the inauguration of the court the other week.

“We are looking at an incredible building replacing an aircraft hangar and turning into a basketball arena,” said Sultana.

“This is a beautiful project for Malta and even internationally. We will be proud to welcome foreign basketball players to play here.”

Malta will be hosting the Games of the Small States of Europe in 20203 – a biennial multi-sports event featuring nine Summer Olympic sports and nine members; Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino.
