Maltese athletes Rachela Pace and Clare McNamara did Malta proud this week, with the pair breaking five national records whilst competing in sports events in the United States.

21-year-old Rachela Pace, competed in the American Outdoor Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she won gold in the triple jump with an impressive distance of 13.41m, breaking the national record in the process.

Rachela broke another national record in the long jump while representing the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Pace claimed silver with a jump distance of 6.48m adding her to the growing list of national records for the two she set.

Thanks to these results, Pace secured her qualification for the upcoming European U23 Athletics Championships in Bergen, Norway.

While Rachela is already a multiple national title holder, she was recently named a 2024 NCAA All-American, a prestigious title awarded to only the top college athletes in the States.

Clare McNamara hit her stride at the Big Ten Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where she broke not just one, not two, but three national records.

McNamara threw 14.67m in the shot put, 51.54m in the javelin and set a new Maltese heptathlon record with 4,907 points which placed her eighth overall.

These rising star athletes will make their mark again on Maltese soil in the National Youth Championships at Marsa athletics stadium which could take them to the Small States of Europe in Andorra.

Well done Rachela and Clare!
