Former Malta international André Schembri will continue his career in India after signing with Chennaiyan FC earlier today.

Schembri broke the news earlier today via a Facebook post in which he announced how he is ‘excited for this life-changing experience and can’t wait to join the team.’

Schembri played for Cypriot side Apollon Limassol which is a little bit closer to home than the  Chennai team based in Tamil Nadu and it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the league

As you can image, the news came as a surprise to many after there was speculation that he would be making a return to Malta to spend the last years of his career here.

Yet his decision to continue his career abroad fits in with his desire to win a foreign championship and Chennaiyin FC can provide him with that opportunity after the Indian Super League twice in the past four seasons.

Schembri will also have the privilege of working under John Gregory, the former manager of Aston Villa.
