Maltese Obstacle Course Racers Showcase Skills At European Competition In Hungary

Maltese Obstacle Course Racing athletes have recently came back to the islands after a trip to Hungary, where they competed in European Championships alongside representatives from 18 countries.
The event was held at the Tata Olympic Centre, where Maltese competitors in the mixed team relay race ranked 13th out of 18 teams – ahead of Germany, Spain, Portugal, Georgia, and the local Hungarian delegation.
Obstacle Course Racing combines physical challenges such as climbing over walls, carrying heavy objects, crawling under barbed wire, and even marksmanship, with endurance and pace-management skills. It is often likened to aspects of military training – but for fun, and fitness.
It also often requires a lot of jumping, splashing, falling, and getting right back up onto your feet for more.
In the three kilometre race, Malta ranked 186th from 582 athletes.
The Grid events have been central to the development and promotion of OCR in Malta, and has brought invaluable support to local OCR athletes and the Malta Modern Pentathlon Association
Malta’s Obstacle Course Racing Athletes Kyle Darmanin , Yasmine McGahern and Rosalie Borg qualified for this competition by topping the 2022 Grid League – the official means of qualification for the OCR European Championships.
Two of Malta’s other competitors, Marko Nikolic and Louise Pisani, competed in age group categories for the three kilometre and 12 kilometre courses.
Congratulations to the OCR athletes!
