Maltese Paralympic Trap Shooter Anglu Ciappara Places First In Italian Open
One Maltese paralympic trap shooter won the day after placing first in his category in the Italian Open Beretta Green Cup held at the Umbriaverde Resort in Todi.
The athlete, none other than Anglu Ciappara, competed in the Para Trap PT2 event and bagged a score of 108 out of 125 shooting targets.
Ciappara was one of a group of 16 trap shooters, including seniors as well as junior athletes competing on the day.
Another impressive performance was seen by Ryan Bugeja, one of Team Malta’s junior athletes. He was just one target shy of an eventual shoot-off for the finals.
In the same category, he was followed by a fellow Maltese shooter – Nico Sciberras – who finished just one target behind his teammate.
Trap shooting is one of the three major disciplines of competitive clay pigeon shooting (that is, firing shotguns at clay targets), with the other disciplines being skeet shooting and sporting clays.
In the coming week, another Maltese contingent will compete at Todi, this time for the Skeet event. An activity where shooters break targets mechanically flung into the air from two fixed stations at high speed.
