Maltese Special Olympics Team Shines With Three Gold Medals At Berlin World Games

Malta’s Special Olympics Team currently competing in Berlin has already bagged three gold medals and a silver in a number of games held yesterday.

The Maltese delegation competed in five different sports disciplines: Athletics, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Swimming, and Table Tennis.

The Maltese team won three gold medals in Athletics (200m), Bowling (Unified Team Sport), Cycling (15K Road Race), and a silver medal in Athletics (800m)!

Gareth Borg won the 15K Road Race with a finishing time of 28 minutes 52.92 seconds, Matthew Bugeja won the gold medal in the 200m with a 26.2 second sprint, and Jake Gatt won silver in the 800m run with a timing of 2 minutes 36 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Bowling Unified Sports Team also won gold, represented by Amanda Cini, Luke Burke, Daniel Grech, and Philip Gruppetta.

Special Olympics Malta is competing at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin across seven different sports disciplines. The Maltese Delegation consists of 22 athletes and five unified partners.

The Special Olympics World Games are being held in Berlin, Germany, with over 7,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 190 countries participating in this event.

The event is happening from 17th to 25th June 2023.
