Local athlete Graham Pellegrini closed off the year with several national records to his name, further securing his spot in Malta’s sports scene at only 19 years old.

Graham started athletics at the age of 14, after transitioning from football to athletics.

Last year alone, he broke the long-standing 400-metre open record with a time of 46.83 seconds, and the Under 20 and Under 23 open records of the 200-metre and 300-metre. He also won two gold and one silver medal at the Games of the Small States of Europe, being the first-ever Maltese athlete to win gold in a 200-metre race.

His international success did not go unnoticed. Graham finished with a time of 47.89 seconds in his first ever 400-metre indoor race at the Senior London Indoor Games at the Lee Valley this January. He placed second out of a total of 50 athletes, and emerged with a national record.

He then improved this on 10th February, with a time of 47.55 seconds when competing at the Balkan Indoor Senior Championships held in Istanbul.

The first Athletics Malta Preseason meeting on the 27th January was also successful for Graham, surpassing his 300-metre national record at 33.38 seconds. He improved his time once again this weekend at the Winter Championships, setting the record at 33.15 seconds.

Graham will end his Winter Season in Glasgow after being selected to represent Malta in the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Congratulations Graham!
