Medal Glory For Maltese Special Olympics Team: Gold, Silver, And Bronze Wins Continue
After bagging three gold medals and one silver on Tuesday, Malta’s Special Olympics Team has brilliantly won another five medals!
On Wednesday, the Maltese delegation competed in five different sports disciplines: Athletics, Bocce, Cycling, Golf, Swimming, and Table Tennis, winning a medal in all finals.
The Maltese team won three gold medals in Cycling (5K Road Race), Swimming (4x 25m Freestyle Relay), Table Tennis (Men’s Unified Partners), a silver medal in Cycling (2K Time Trials), and a bronze in Cycling (5K Road Race).
Giuseppina Galea placed 2nd in the 2K Time Trials, finishing the race in 6 minutes and 00.24 seconds, winning silver in cycling.
Sam Borg and Anthea Cutajar won gold against Oman in the final match of the Men’s Unified Doubles 9-11, 12-14, 11-5, 11-4 & 11-9.
Meanwhile, the swimming team of four x 25m Freestyle relay team also bagged another for the day, along with Carmelo Pace, who won the 5K Road Race in 6 minutes 05.33 seconds.
Sasha Cini won the Bronze medal in the 5K Road Race with a timing of 6 minutes 43.62 seconds.
Special Olympics Malta is competing at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin across seven different sports disciplines. The Maltese Delegation consists of 22 athletes and five unified partners.
The Special Olympics World Games are being held in Berlin, Germany, with over 7,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 190 countries participating in this event.
The event is happening from 17th to 25th June 2023.
