Maltese MMA fighter Matthew Camilleri has raised the roof in England after successfully defending his featherweight title at the Bolton Arena.

The fight – FCC 29 – took place on 25th June. On the day, Matthew entered the ring with Azi ‘One Bomb’ Thomas, a renowned Welsh boxer and Commonwealth medallist with nine wins and four losses on his pro record.

The two locked horns in an intense contest that saw Matthew go the distance, and ultimately win by judge’s decision, with a score of 30-24.

“By the third round I saw that mentally, he was finished,” Matthew told Lovin Malta. “So I went out all guns blazing and attempted a takedown. I chased him non-stop from beginning to end.”

“I was so close to getting a technical knockout (TKO) but time had run out.”

With a pro-record of six wins and one loss, Matthew has been tearing it up abroad. Having retained his belt, he is ready for his next fight, come October.
