MFA To Remove Ta’ Qali Stadium Athletics Track In €60 Million Overhaul

The Malta Football Association is planning a major transformation of the national stadium at Ta’ Qali, with one of the most significant changes being the removal of the athletics track that currently surrounds the pitch.

The redevelopment forms part of a €60 million investment aimed at upgrading the stadium to meet UEFA Category 4 standards — the highest level for European football venues. According to MaltaSport.com, the ambitious project will be officially unveiled on 5th May.

Under the plans, large sections of the stadium will be demolished and rebuilt to bring fans closer to the pitch, replacing the wide gap currently created by the athletics track. The move is expected to significantly improve the matchday atmosphere and enhance the overall viewing experience for supporters.

The project stems from the MFA’s long-term strategy published in 2021, which highlighted the need to modernise the stadium and align it with international standards to host top-tier football matches.

More details on the new design, timeline, and funding are expected to be announced during the upcoming launch event.
