Neptunes Swimming Club has wrapped up a record-breaking season, claiming both national short course and long course championships and smashing multiple records in the process.

In a statement the club recalled that in December their teams achieved A historic milestone by winning Malta’s first ever National Short Course Championship. During the last weekend of June they also secured the National Long Course Championships.

During the Short Course Championship Neptunes’ swimmer broke a handful of Age Group records and set the National records for the 4 x 50-metre Medley Relay. During the National Long Course Championships Neptunes’ swimmers Mya Azzopardi twice broke a 17-year-old National Record in the 100-metre freestyle event, which was set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Mya also broke the 100-metre backstroke National Record while Kyle Micallef broke the 50-metre freestyle National Record.

These achievements, the club said, would not have been possible “without the incredible dedication” of its swimmers. The club praised unwavering commitment, sacrifices, and passionate racing with heart are truly inspiring. Their dedication to the team continues to unify and strengthen our squad, creating a cohesive and motivated environment.

The club also thanked the “unwavering support” shown by parents. “[Their] dedication and willingness to volunteer and work hand in hand with the team are truly commendable.”

The club went on to thank the commitment shown by its sub-committee and main committee, as well as their team of coaches.

“Special thanks go to Gail Rizzo, Amy Micallef, Sean Camilleri, and Emilia Galea Testaferrata, who have all worked closely with Delon Dannhauser—our consulting coach from South Africa. Countless hours have been spent in discussions,” wrote the club.

This winning streak coincides with the club’s recent expansion into top-tier facilities. In December 2024, Neptunes signed a long-term agreement with the Malta Football Association to operate the indoor pool at the Millennium Stand in Ta’ Qali. The revamped facility – now featuring climate control, underwater cameras, and state-of-the-art training spaces – will serve as a key base for the club’s swimming and water polo academies.
