Olympian Sasha Gatt Smashes National Record And Makes History At Under 23 European Championships
Two- time Maltese Olympian, Sasha Gatt, broke a national record in the 800-metre freestyle and made it to the final heat of the Under 23 Swimming European Championships.
“Broke a National Record in the 800m freestyle, just one month after competing at the GSSE Games!” wrote Gatt on her social media pages.
The last time she stood on the European final stage was back in 2021 at the Junior European Championships. It’s “surreal to be back here, a little older, stronger, and more driven than ever,” wrote Gatt.
She went on to thank her coach, Catalin Stan, for all his patience and support in helping her achieve her goals. She also went on to thank her family for their continuous encouragement.
“Most proud to have made the European final—Malta’s first ever in this event at U23 level. Coming from a small island and lining up with the best in Europe, finishing 8th place”
