President Konrad Mizzi: Tourism Minister Honoured By His Local Football Team
Konrad Mizzi celebrates Hibernians FC’s league victory in 2017
Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi has been named honorary president of Hibernians FC, his local football team.
Mizzi has made no secret of his love for Hibs and was famously photographed celebrating in the Paola village square when they won the league three years ago.
Health Minister Chris Fearne, whose constituency includes Paola, was also named honorary president of Hibs during the football club’s annual general meeting last night.
Mizzi’s announcement is likely to prove awkward to Opposition MP Jason Azzopardi, also an honorary president of Hibs but one of the minister’s harshest critics in Parliament.
The announcement of the two new honorary presidents proved divisive, with a number of people insisting on social media that politics and football should be kept separate.
However, others argue that Mizzi fully deserves his new role – arguing that he has been supporting Hibs since he was a child and has proven to be a capable minister.
