Promising Young Athlete Wins Two Prizes At SportsMalta Awards
				
							The winners of the SportMalta Awards were announced this weekend with talented young weightlifter Tenishia Thornton taking home two of the esteemed prizes: Young Athlete of the Year Women and People’s Choice Award.
These awards recognise the achievements of Maltese athletes according to a number of categories, seven of which were a result of the votes by the jury, another two were chosen by the Executive Committee of the Malta Sports Journalists Association and the final two were given out upon a nomination by Special Olympics.
The other talented winners of this year’s awards were:
- Dejan Grech – Sportsman of the Year
 - Katryna Esposito – Sportswoman of the Year
 - Chaylon Castaldi – Youth Athlete of the Year Men
 - Ħamrun Spartans – Team of the Year
 - Jesmond Caruana – Coach of the Year
 - Terry Camilleri – Official of the Year
 - Special Olympics Invitational Games – International Sports Event of the Year
 - Gilmour Borg – Special Olympics Athlete Man Award
 - Mireille Giles – Special Olympics Athlete Woman Award.
 
This annual awards ceremony was a collaboration between the Malta Sports Journalists Association and SportMalta, with the backing of the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation.
