WATCH: Smashed It! Teenage Tennis Sensation Francesca Curmi Defies Odds And Advances To ITF Montasir Quarter Finals

Francesca Curmi has advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITF Montasir after a spectacular showing in Tunisia earlier today.

Curmi won in two straight sets (6-1,6-3) in the round of 16 against Oana Gavrilă despite coming in as the underdog with a 37.37% chance to win, according to SofaScore.

Gavrilă has an ITF Singles Ranking of 22 while Curmi has a ranking of 1062. The young and promising tennis player has been formidable despite the odds stacked against her, including having to play two qualifying matches before quailing for the round of 32.

The 18-year-old Maltese tennis player will play the winner of Risa Ushijima vs Yasmine Mansouri in the quarter finals.

Curmi also advanced to the doubles semi final alongside her doubles partner Mihaela Đaković. Together after beating Alena Bairasheuskaya and Alisa Yakimakho two sets to one.

At 18 years old, the Maltese tennis player already has an impressive resume to her name having become the first Maltese athlete to qualify for the Main Round of the prestigious Roland-Garros Juniors and also played in the Wimbledon Juniors and the US Open Main Draw too.
